More and more brands appear every year but some of them really catch my eye. In this Brook and Wilde mattress review, I will talk about this new exciting entry and whether it’s an option you should consider.
The company was founded in 2018 and they manufacture everything here in the UK. They have developed a hybrid mattress which comes packed in a nice carton box. The difference with this one is that it comes in 3 firmness options; soft, medium and firm. This is something that I personally like about them as we all have different needs and taste. My mattress came almost a month ago so it’s about time I write this review.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
The Brook and Wilde Lux mattress has a relatively complicated construction. It’s made of a total of 5 layers. These are:
- A memory foam layer that provides comfort but also reduces unwanted motion transfer.
- A mini springs layer (2,000) which is there to provide your body with the needed pressure relief.
- A second memory foam layer which is denser than the top one. It’s there to provide your hips and shoulders with the extra needed support. It also helps with spine alignment.
- A bigger pocket springs layer (1,000) which adds bounce to the mattress.
- A support foam layer which keeps the whole thing altogether. This is the base of the mattress.
The use of all these layers make this mattress one of the thickest rolled ones measuring 28cm in height.
The cover of the Brook and Wilde Lux mattress features a two-colour design. The top part is white with a visual pattern and the bottom part is navy. The two parts are separated by an orange line. It’s a clean and simple design that is pleasant to the eye. The cover is very breathable and seems quite durable. It’s also hypoallergenic so anyone with an allergy can feel confident using this mattress. On the sides, they have placed 4 handles so you can move it easier which is good practical thinking.
The cover feels soft and in general, I liked it. It’s not the best one I have seen but it’s a good quality one. Unfortunately, it is not machine washable so you have to spot clean it when needed. Overall, I think they did a good job here.
COMFORT & SUPPORT
I have already mentioned that the Brook and Wilde mattress comes in 3 different firmness options. In this review, I will talk about the Firm one which is the one I got. If I put this in my virtual scale, I would say it’s a 3.6 with 5 being really firm and 0 being really soft. I personally thought it would feel firmer but it’s not a really firm one. I want to talk now about the different sleeping positions and how this mattress performed.
Starting from the back position, I instantly felt the memory foam layer doing its work. This is not very usual for a hybrid mattress and I personally liked it. The mattress moulded around my shoulders and it was a very comfortable feeling. I also felt that my spine was properly aligned which is quite important.
Moving to the side position, the mattress adapted quickly. Sinkage increased but not as much as I would ideally need for a perfect spine alignment. I felt that my body was supported but something was missing. I think this might have to do with my weight (9 stones) so maybe the medium option would suit me better. It would allow my hips to sink more and my spine to align better.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress adapted quickly again. I felt more the bounce in this position which is something I expected from the 2 spring layers. My hips were positioned in a really good way and my whole body was in good form. In general, I find firmer mattresses to work really well in this position. Brook and Wilde did a really good job too and this was probably the most comfortable among the 3 positions.
The mattress is very well-built so unsurprisingly the edge support was also good. Motion transfer exists even if the upper memory foam layer is designed to stop it. After all, there are 2 spring layers in this mattress. However, I don’t think it’s too much so your sleeping partner won’t bother you during sleep. Overall, I think that this mattress is really good mostly for back or stomach sleepers.
I have already mentioned that the Brook and Wilde Lux mattress is a rolled one which means that it comes packed in a carton box. You can see it on the picture below.
There is no charge for the delivery regardless of the size you will be getting. After you place your order, the mattress will be delivered within 3 working days. One of the best things about them is that they have a 2-man delivery service. This is so useful for someone like me who struggles to carry the box around. The couriers arrived on time and they placed the box in the room of my choice. And there is more to it! Brook and Wilde offer a free recycling service which means that they can take your old mattress and recycle it at no extra cost! This is absolutely fantastic and I think this is the best service you can find out there.
The communication was also great. They contacted me one day prior to delivery but also on the day to let me know about the exact time I should expect them. Overall, I think that they offer the best service you can get and I was really happy with my whole experience.
TRIAL PERIOD & GUARANTEE
The Brook and Wilde mattress comes with a 100-night trial period which is pretty common these days with all the rolled mattresses. This is a great feature as you can test and see whether you like this mattress. If you are not happy with it they will give you two options. The first one is to exchange the mattress for another one of a different firmness level. The second one is to get a full refund. Both options are free and all you have to do is contact their customer support department. They will arrange everything for you at the time of your preference. To have these options, you don’t have to keep the original packaging so you can get rid of it once you have unpack the mattress.
You will also get a 10-year guarantee which is another great feature of this mattress. Make sure you read carefully the T&Cs so you know what is covered. Overall, Brook and Wilde offer a fantastic package here, so no complaints at all.
Finishing this Brook and Wilde Lux mattress review, it’s time I share my final thoughts with you. I personally liked this mattress for a number of reasons. Firstly, the service and support are probably the best you can get. Secondly, the mattress comes in 3 different firmness levels which is great. If they add EU sizes then it would be fantastic. Lastly, it’s a good quality hybrid mattress that is very well built. The retail price is quite high but if you are smart about it and wait for an offer then this can be a really good option for you.
