If you have a limited budget, this Simba Essential mattress review is written for you. Simba is one of the most popular mattress makers in the UK and the Essential mattress is their more affordable option. Naturally, this got my attention so I went and ordered one to see what this was all about.
I have reviewed a number of mattresses from this brand and most recently, it was the Simba Inter mattress. They have an extended range that covers most sleeper’s needs. My Essential mattress was delivered almost a week ago so it’s time now to move to the full review below.
Materials & Construction
This mattress has a simple design that features 3 layers. These are:
- A Simbatex foam layer that is designed to add elasticity and cushioning. It’s infused with graphite which can remove the excess heat so you can sleep cooler.
- An Aerocoil spring layer that is made of titanium. These springs will contour your body and will help the mattress breathe better.
- A foam base layer that features five different zones. These can provide your body with tailored support.
This mattress has a low profile and it measures 20cm in height. Below you can see in detail the position of every layer.
Cover
The cover of the Essential Hybrid mattress is made of a breathable fabric that allows airflow. It’s made of two parts, a white top one and a grey bottom part. The former is removable and machine washable. This is very practical and I love it when makers think this way. But that’s not it! On the sides, you will find 4 handles that will make moving this mattress way easier. The design is a modern one and I personally love it. The sleeping surface feels soft and the overall quality is quite good.
Comfort & Support
Let’s continue with this Simba Essential mattress review and talk about its firmness. This is a mattress built with the average sleeper in mind so it comes with a medium-firm feel. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say this is a 6.6 with 10 being really firm. I want to talk now about my experience with it during the past week.
Starting from my back, the mattress felt quite comfortable and it was adequately supportive. The sleeping surface felt cool and there were no pressure points on my back.
Turning to the side position, the mattress managed to handle my weight and my spinal alignment was neutral. There was no discomfort on my hips and it was comfortable sleeping this way.
Finally, moving to the front position, I didn’t feel that this mattress did a good job at it as it wasn’t firm enough. If you prefer to sleep in this position, the Simba Hybrid mattress is a way better choice.
As expected, the edge support is average but nothing too bad. Additionally, if you share your bed with a partner, the motion transfer is minimal so you will not disturb each other during sleep.
Service
Despite the low price here, Simba still offers a great service. When you order a mattress from them, you will get a free next-day delivery. That means you won’t wait long for your mattress to come. Additionally, for an extra £10 you can choose your 4-hour slot which is one of the most practical add-ons I have seen out there. But if you feel you want more from them, they offer a VIP service that will cost you an extra £50. This includes mattress setup, packaging removal and old mattress recycling.
When I ordered mine, I just paid for the 4-hour slot as I had a very busy week at the time. Communication was great and I was well-informed about every step of the process. The courier was prompt and the mattress box arrived in good condition. It’s not a heavy mattress so depending on the size, you will probably be able to move it by yourselves. Overall, I was happy with their service so no complaints at all.
Trial Period & Guarantee
Simba is a maker that values its customers and for this reason, it offers a fantastic support package. Firstly, all their mattresses come with a 200-night trial period that gives you plenty of time to try them at home. Simba will ask no questions if you want to return your mattress and they will help you with the whole process. I have to mention here that you don’t need to keep the original packaging to be able to complete a return.
Secondly, all Simba mattresses come with a 10-year guarantee that will cover you for a long time. This is what most makers offer these days but still, it’s a great thing to have. Overall, this is a complete package here and Simba does a great job.

This is obviously not the best mattress that I have tried but for its price, it won’t disappoint you.
