Simba has recently developed the ‘Earth’ range that features 3 options made with all-natural materials. In this Simba Apex mattress review, I will talk about this premium option that promises comfortable sleep.
After reviewing the Simba Escape mattress, I was curious to get my hands on the Apex mattress which sits at the top of the ‘Earth’ range. As expected this is another hybrid option that combines pocket springs with natural materials like hemp and flax. Mine arrived almost ten days ago so it’s time now to move to the full review below.
Materials & Construction
This mattress has a complicated design that features 7 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A soft British wool layer that adds comfort and allows airflow.
- A layer made of Yorkshire hemp and flax that has the ability to control moisture.
- A thick layer made of cashmere, organic silk & British wool. This adds both comfort and support.
- A layer made of soft mohair and springy British wool. This can provide your body with extra cushioning.
- A layer made of 2,500 Aerocoil springs that can respond to your body movements for pressure-relieving support.
- A layer made of 2,500 steel springs that increase stability and support.
- A Quadcore sprung base that is the main source of support.
The Simba Apex mattress measures 30cm in height and the image below gives us a better look of the position of each layer.
Cover
This mattress comes with a cover that is made of wool & viscose. These are natural materials and they come with a number of properties. For starters, this blend is very breathable so it will keep the sleeping surface cool, even during the summer months. Secondly, they are hypoallergenic so if you suffer from any allergies or have sensitive skin, this can be a great option. Lastly, this blend is super soft and it has a nice premium feel.
The design is not the most exciting one but this is expected as they didn’t want to use any dye or chemicals. It features a white colourway with beige details. On the sides, you will find 4 carrying handles that will help you move this mattress. These are very useful as this is quite a heavy mattress. Unfortunately, this is not a removable cover and you cannot machine-wash it. Overall, this is a high-quality cover that impressed me.
Comfort & Support
I want to continue writing this Simba Apex mattress review and talk about its feel. This is a medium-firm mattress that will suit the average sleeper. If I use my virtual scale, this would be a 6.8 with 10 being really firm. I want to talk now about my experience with it during the past week.
Starting from the back position, the mattress did a fantastic job distributing my weight evenly. This took all the pressure away and I felt very comfortable in this position.
Turning to the side, the mattress remained supportive and my spine was aligned correctly. It was comfortable sleeping this way and I didn’t feel any discomfort on my hips or shoulders.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress did a good job supporting my chest and hips. This made me feel quite comfortable sleeping this way and this mattress definitely impressed me with its performance.
If you are a couple, the Simba Apex is suitable for you as it has minimal motion transfer. Moreover, it has great edge support so you can get in and out of bed with ease.
Service
This mattress is not the cheapest out there so it should be paired with great service and support. The people behind Simba seem to understand that and for this reason, they offer a free VIP delivery that otherwise would cost you £50. What you get is a 2-man delivery service with a mattress setup. Moreover, you can have your old mattress recycled and this is a fantastic perk. Delivery usually takes between 1-3 working days so you won’t have to wait for long.
In my case, I had to wait for 2 days and I received a text with my delivery slot. The couriers were prompt and they set up the mattress in the room of my choice. Packaging was removed and they left a place that needed little cleaning. At the time, I didn’t have an old mattress to recycle but it was good to have the option. Overall, I had a great experience with them so no complaints at all.
Trial Period & Guarantee
Buying a mattress online can be a stressful thing but thankfully the people at Simba seem to understand that. For this reason, they offer a 200-night trial period that gives you more than 6 months to try this at home. If after all this time you are not happy with this mattress, you can return it and get a full refund. I have to state here that you don’t need to keep the original packaging to be able to make a return. The process is a straightforward one and if you need any help with it, their customer service department will help you out.
Additionally, the Simba Apex mattress comes with a 10-year guarantee that will cover you for a long time. For more details about it, you should read the full terms and conditions on their guarantee page. Overall, this is a complete package here that won’t disappoint.
