REM-Fit is an American brand that is famous for its innovative products. Founded back in 2011, they have seen great success in the US. In this REM-Fit 500 mattress review, I will talk about their most popular mattress and whether it’s a good option for you.
They made a hybrid mattress that combines memory foam with pocket springs. As you expect, this is a ‘mattress in a box’ so it will be delivered directly to your door. The two companies they use are Parcel Force and Tuffnells. This mattress has a firm feel but more on this later. My REM-Fit 500 arrived three weeks ago so it’s a good time now to write this review.
Materials & Construction
The REM-Fit 500 Ortho is made of 4 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A memory foam comfort layer which is infused with cool gel. It’s there to keep the sleeping surface cool during sleep.
- A Mediflex memory foam layer which helps with pressure relief. This foam is designed to help your bonier areas like your shoulders and hips.
- A layer which consists of 2,000 tall(14cm) pocket springs. These will provide your body with the needed support.
- A high-density foam layer which keeps the mattress altogether. According to the maker, the mattress can withstand a combined weight of up to 40 stones.
Other than the 4 layers, they have also added foam-encapsulated sidewalls which help the mattress have better edge support. The image below showcases how each layer is positioned.
Cover
The cover of the REM-Fit 500 is made of Re-Ax thermos-regulating fibres which are developed by them. This type of material is designed to allow airflow and keep the mattress cool during the night. The cover can regulate the body’s temperature in order to allow you to get a comfortable sleep. The design of the cover features a white top part and the bottom part has grey and petrol details. It looks contemporary and modern. The cover feels soft but feels strong at the same time. If you want to clean it, you can machine-wash it at 40 degrees which is great. Overall, it’s a high-quality cover that I liked a lot.
Comfort & Support
Most boxed mattresses have a medium-firm feel but the REM-Fit 500 is different. It’s designed for sleepers who suffer from chronic back pain so it has a firm feel. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say this is a 7.8 with 10 being really firm. It’s time now to talk about the different sleeping positions and how this mattress performed.
Starting from the back position, the mattress felt firm at the beginning but after a few seconds, I got used to it. Support was great and I felt that my spine was in good form. Pressure relief was adequate and overall I felt that the mattress did well.
Turning to the side position, the pocket springs reacted quickly and sinkage increased. My hips were in a good position to allow a correct spine alignment. Support was adequate and I felt it was comfortable in this position.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress did an amazing job. My hips were in the right position to allow my spine to align properly and I felt that the mattress is designed for stomach sleepers. Pressure relief was good and I think that this mattress will suit all types of sleepers.
As for the edge support, I would say it’s excellent. The combination of springs with the foam-encapsulated sidewalls helps a lot so you will get the same performance from corner to corner. Finally, if you share your bed with a partner, you should expect a bit of disturbance but nothing too much.
Service
I have already mentioned in the intro that this is a boxed mattress. It will be delivered directly to your door in a carton box just like the one in the picture below. They offer Free Next Working day delivery for all sizes which is amazing! However, their service goes beyond that! For £20 you will get a premium 2-man delivery and if you want to combine that with an old mattress removal then you will have to spend an extra of £30. Saturday delivery costs £30 and this is what I chose as I was very busy with work. The courier was polite and the whole experience was very straightforward. I received good communication from them and my mattress was delivered by Parcel Force.
The REM-Fit 500 Ortho mattress is available in 7 sizes, including some EU ones. The smaller Single size costs £649 and the bigger Super King sells for £949. However, they run frequent promotions, so you should always check my discount code page before you buy a mattress.
Trial Period & Guarantee
This mattress comes with a 100-night trial period which is great! That means that you have more than 3 months to try this mattress before you decide to keep it. If you are not happy with your purchase, you can return it and get a full refund. All returned mattresses are donated to the British Heart Foundation which is a great gesture by REM-Fit.
The mattress also comes with a 15-year guarantee which shows how confident they are about their products. This is actually 5 years more than the average boxed mattress which usually comes with a 10-year guarantee. Overall, I think that they offer a fantastic package here so no complaints at all.
