More and more people follow an organic lifestyle and some makers have noticed that. In this Una Mattress Essential review, I discuss this interesting option that will appeal to everyone looking for a healthier lifestyle.
Their range features two options with the Essential being the more affordable one and the Una Delux mattress being the more premium one. Both mattresses are made with organic latex and they come with an adjustable feel. My Essential mattress arrived almost ten days ago so let’s move to the full review below.
Materials & Construction
The core of the Una Essential mattress is made of 3 latex foam inserts. Two of them are split into two halves and one is fully wide. You can change the position of the layers to customise the feel of this mattress. According to Una, you can have two different firmness profiles and each side can be adjusted accordingly. That is great news for couples and those who sleep with a partner.
All layers are made of natural organic latex that is GOLS and GOTS certified. This ensures that the latex used here follows the strictest standards and the quality is great. Una sources its latex from Sri Lanka, a country known for it.
Cover
The cover of this mattress is made of organic soft cotton and wool. They chose this blend as it has a number of properties that make it ideal for a cover. Firstly, both wool and cotton are quite breathable and have the ability to wick moisture away. Secondly, wool is a natural fire retardant which makes this mattress way safer. Finally, both materials are quite soft which improves the comfort of this mattress.
Designing an organic mattress means no chemicals or dye so this cover has a ‘bland’ appearance. Having said that, this didn’t bother me as it served the purpose of being organic. Unfortunately, there are no side handles so it’s not very easy to move it whenever that is needed. Additionally, the cover is not machine-washable so you can only spot-clean it. These are the main drawbacks here but overall, this is a high-quality cover.
Comfort & Support
Let’s continue with this Una Mattress Essential review and talk about its feel. As I have mentioned earlier, this is an adjustable mattress that gives you two firmness options; medium & medium-soft. I prefer medium mattresses so for this review I am going to talk about this setup.
Lying on my back, the mattress felt supportive and there were no pressure points. I was comfortable sleeping this way and I didn’t feel I was sinking into it.
Turning to the side position, the mattress reacted quickly and sinkage increased. My spine was aligned correctly and there was no pain around my hips.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress felt softer than I would have preferred so if you sleep this way, maybe the Delux mattress would be the better choice.
If you are a couple, the motion transfer is minimal which is expected from a latex mattress. On the other hand, the edge support is average as there are no springs.
Service
If you decide to buy a Una mattress, you will get a free delivery service. However, this is far from quick so you have to wait for about 14-20 working days. This is one of the biggest weaknesses of this mattress but if you want an organic option, I guess you have to wait. The mattress will arrive packed inside 2-3 boxes and that of course depends on the size you order. They deliver their mattresses via DPD so you will be able to track your package every step of the way.
When I ordered mine, everything went well and the process was straightforward. The boxes weren’t too heavy and I was able to carry them to my bedroom. Overall, I had a good experience but the waiting time was too long.
Trial Period & Guarantee
Buying a mattress online can make some people feel uneasy but the good news is that all Una mattresses come with a 100-night trial period. That gives you plenty of time to try this at home and decide at a later stage whether this is a good fit or not. If you are not happy with your purchase, you can return it and get your money back.
Additionally, all Una mattresses come with a 10-year guarantee that will cover you for a long time. For more details on that, you can visit their guarantee page. Overall, this is a great support package.
Una Mattress Essential Review – The Verdict
I am ready now to complete this Una Mattress Essential review and share my final thoughts with you. Una has built a more affordable version here but in my opinion, the Delux mattress is probably worth the extra money. After all it’s better in many ways so I would probably spend the extra pounds to get it. If you don’t want to spend more, the Essential mattress is still a good latex option that will suit back and side sleepers.
