Nectar Memory Foam Mattress Review

Last updated:

There are a few American mattress brands that I was always hoping would come to the UK. One of them has finally launched here about a month ago. In this Nectar Memory Foam mattress review, I will talk about this exciting new entry and whether it is worth getting.

Nectar launched back in 2016 and quite quickly became one of the biggest players in the US market. Although it’s an American company, they design and manufacture their mattresses here in the UK. Nectar is a rolled mattress that follows the ‘one mattress fits all’ approach. That means that all you do is choose the size that suits your needs. They make high-quality mattresses with very affordable price tags which is a winning combination. My mattress arrived 2 weeks ago so it’s a good time to move now to the full review.

Materials & Construction

The Nectar mattress is made of a total of 4 layers. These are:

  • A gel memory foam layer that is quilted into the top of the cover. It’s there to keep the sleeping surface cool during the night and help airflow.
  • A Nectar Smart memory foam layer that regulates your body’s temperature during sleep. It also helps with comfort and support.
  • A pressure relief memory foam layer that allows your body and joints to properly rest during sleep. It is designed to be more breathable compared to standard memory foam.
  • A seven-zone dense foam layer, designed specifically to provide support to your hips and shoulders. It’s also the base of the Nectar mattress.

In the picture below, you can have a closer look at the layers and how they are positioned.

Cover

The cover of the Nectar mattress is made of two parts. The top part is the sleeping surface and the side & bottom part pack the mattress. The cover is made of Tencel, which is very breathable but at the same time, it can absorb humidity very efficiently. It works well with your body’s thermal regulating mechanism to ensure you stay cool during the night. Tencel is made from wood pulp and other sustainably sourced sources. It’s more eco-friendly than cotton as it needs fewer resources to be made. On the grey part of the cover, Nectar has applied some anti-slip elements that help the mattress stay in place. Moreover, it’s fire retardant and looks quite strong.

The cover feels nice, not the best I have tried, and it didn’t feel warm at any time of the night. I think it did a good job of regulating my body’s temperature overall. I would say the design is very ‘neutral’, personally, I didn’t like it but this is not very important as we don’t see the cover too often. You cannot machine wash the cover as Nectar advises only spot cleaning with a mild detergent. However, you can unzip the top part if you want. Overall, I think they did well here except for the design which is not the best I’ve seen.

Comfort & Support

The Nectar Memory Foam mattress is a medium-firm one with the aim to cover most people’s needs. If I use my virtual scale, I would say that Nectar is a 6.5 with 10 being really firm. The mattress behaves like a memory foam one so those who like the ‘hugging’ feeling will really like this. On the other hand, this mattress is not bouncy so if you are looking for that then look elsewhere. I will now talk about the different sleeping positions and how Nectar performed.

firmness scale

Starting from the back position, I instantly felt the memory foam hugging my body, particularly my shoulders and hips. It was a very comforting feeling and as a back sleeper, it was something I enjoyed. The mattress felt supportive and my spine alignment was correct.

Moving to the side position, the mattress adjusted but a bit slower than I wanted. Once it did I felt quite comfortable and my hips didn’t feel any discomfort. Sinkage was the right one to secure a correct spine alignment. In general, I felt adequate support but nothing extraordinary in this position.

Finally, moving to the stomach position, the foam reacted again slightly slower than I wanted but once it did I felt nice support in my hips area. My chest and shoulders also got in the right place and I felt that the mattress did a good job.

Regarding the edge support, the Nectar mattress is a really good construction and I felt that you get the same performance even near the edges. In addition, there is minimal motion transfer which is great for couples. Overall, I felt that Nectar is a good all-arounder that is also suitable for couples. However, side sleepers can find a better mattress.

Service

The Nectar mattress comes packed in a nice carton box. The mattress is available in 5 sizes but unfortunately not the EU ones. Hopefully, this will change in the near future. Delivery usually takes between 2-5 working days and it’s free for every size. Where Nectar stands out is the way they deliver mattresses. They offer a two-man delivery service with a free mattress set-up.

In my case, the two couriers arrived as expected and they placed the mattress in the room of my preference. They removed it from the box and placed it on the bed frame. This was very helpful as for a woman a mattress can be really heavy. On top, if you want your old mattress removed, Nectar offers this as a free service but make sure you let them know beforehand. This is great as all the other makers who have this service usually charge anything between £15-£35. Overall, I think that Nectar offers the best service I have seen and I was extremely happy with it.

Trial Period & Guarantee

The Nectar Memory Foam mattress comes with a 365-day trial period for you to decide if you want to keep it. This is an actual year which is something that I have never seen. If you are not happy with your mattress, all you have to do is contact them and arrange a collection. Once this happens, they will process a full refund for you. Returns are free and you don’t have to keep the original packaging.

The mattress also comes with a lifetime guarantee. Most manufacturers will give you 10 years but Nectar offers you way more than that! This shows how confident they are about their products but also how much they value their customers. Nectar definitely offers the best trial period and guarantee and I could not ask for more here.

Verdict

It’s time now to finish this Nectar Memory Foam mattress review and share my final thoughts with you. Nectar is the best value-for-money mattress I have reviewed so far. Having said that, it is suited more towards sleepers who tend to sleep on their backs or stomachs and enjoy a ‘hugging’ feeling. It’s not bouncy and it behaves a lot like a traditional memory foam mattress. It’s excellent for couples as the motion transfer is minimal and it’s a very comfortable and supportive mattress. And all that at a price that is very competitive with great service and a trial period. If you look for all that then Nectar should be one to look at.
