Casper was one of the brands that I always wanted to try. It’s one the most succesful mattress companies in the USA and they launched here in the UK almost 2 years ago. In this Casper mattress review, I will talk about this hybrid foam mattress and whether it’s worth buying it.
I received my Casper mattress 4 weeks ago and it arrived in my doorstep in a nice white carton box. It is a rolled mattress like most I have reviewed here and it follows the one mattress fits all approach. That means that there is only one option and you only choose the size that fits your needs. The Casper mattress is designed in the USA but manufactured here in the UK using high quality materials. Taking it out of the box, the mattress will come with a bad odour but no need to worry at all here, this will wear off in a couple of days. I think it’s time now to move to the full review below.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
Casper use a total of 4 foam layers (hybrid foam) and the cover to make their mattresses. In detail, the layers are:
An open-cell foam layer which is designed to allow air flow and keep the mattress cool during the night.
A responsive memory foam layer which provides the body with the needed pressure relief.
An adaptive transision foam layer which provides you with the comfort you need and distributes your body weight equally.
A durable support foam layer which is the base of this mattress and adds durability to the whole construction.
You can see how the layers are placed in the below image.
Casper have designed a really nice looking cover for their mattress. It is made of 99% polyester and 1% elastane. Polyester helps with the air flow so the mattress breaths well during the night. I really felt that their system keeps the mattress cool during sleep. The cover features a zip and is removable. You can also machine wash it at 40 degrees so it’s very easy to maintain it clean and fresh. The mattress also features handles so you can move it and turn it which I really loved and I wish more manufacturers would follow this approach. The cover feels very nice and it’s quite soft but at the same time it feels durable and strong. I think that Casper did a really good job here and the overall construction is great!
COMFORT & SUPPORT
Casper design their mattresses to cover most people’s needs. Therefore, they went with a medium-firm approach. If I use my virtual scale, I would say that Casper is a 3.3 with 5 being really firm and 0 really soft.
It’s time now to talk about the different sleeping positions. Starting from the back position, I felt the mattress hugging me in the right spots and my spine stayed in a nice form. It was really comfortable in this position and I felt I was well supported.
Turning to the side position, the hybrid foam layer reacted fast and sinkage increased to put my spine in a nice form. It was very comfortable to lay in this position although the mattress felt a bit firmer. My body felt supported but not as much as in the back position.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, sinkage decreased and I felt my hips and chest getting a nice support. I enjoyed the comfort of this position and I felt that it was as good as the back one. The foam layer adjusted very quickly and I felt that this is a good quality mattress.
Casper is a solid construction so when I did the edge suppor test it performed really well. So you should expect to get a good performance even at the edges. Overall, the mattress performed very well in the back and stomach position and just well in the side position. So really good work here from Casper!
As I have already mentioned, the Casper mattress will be delivered directly to your door in a box which measures 47cm x 47cm x 108cm. Depending on the size you order, the package will have different weights starting from 19kg for a single one and going up to 40kg for a super king size. The Casper mattress is available in a total of 8 sizes, including the EU ones. This means that you will definitely find the one that suits your needs.
Casper offer a free delivery service for all orders in the UK. The mattress will be delivered in 2-3 days from the time you place the order which is great. If you want to choose a specific day for your delivery (including Saturday) you will have to pay an extra £15. For this amount, the delivery guys will also help you to set your mattress up and remove the packaging. And if you want them to remove your old mattress then you have to pay an extra £10. I think this is a fantastic service, definitely the best I have seen as with an extra £25 you get all these! Unfortunately there is no next day delivery available but I would not worry much as the free delivery is pretty fast! Overall, I think that Casper did a great job here and I had an amazing experience with the UPS guys that delivered my mattress.
TRIAL PERIOD & GUARANTEE
The Casper mattress, like most ones these days, comes with a 100 night trial period. That means that you can sleep on your mattress for 3 months before you make up your mind on whether you want to keep this or not. This is a great deal as it makes it so much easier and safer to buy a mattress online. If you don’t like it, you can return it for free and get a full refund. Returns are completely free and the mattress will go to a local charity. This is a great gesture by Casper and I really like it.
The mattress also comes with a 10 year guarantee which is a great feature! If you want to know about the full policy, you can visit their dedicated page here. Overall, Casper offers a great customer service and I really like what I am getting from them but also how they help the local charities.
This is the time I finish this Casper mattress review and I share my final thoughts with you. Casper is a really good hybrid foam mattress that performed well in my tests. It also comes with an excellent service and support and it’s a company that cares about the local communities. This is great to see in a highly competitive business enviroment. So if you look for a value for money high quality mattress then you should definitely consider the Casper mattress.
