Emma NextGen Premium Mattress Review UK

Last updated:

Read my Emma NextGen Premium mattress review to find out more about this new release from Emma. It’s a hybrid option that according to the maker marks a big improvement when compared to the Emma Hybrid mattress. This is their first premium release so I was really excited to get my hands on it.

After seeing great success since launching in the UK, they decided it was about time to create a mattress with more premium specs. This is how the Emma Premium was born, a mattress that is here to improve the way we sleep. Despite being a premium mattress, this is still a rolled one so you should expect it packed in a box. Mine arrived about 10 days ago so let’s move to the full review below.

Materials & Construction

The Emma Premium mattress features a total of 5 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:

  • An Airgocell foam layer with an open-cell structure that allows it to stay cool during the night. In addition, this foam type has pressure-relieving properties.
  • A memory foam layer that is designed to provide your body with the needed pressure relief.
  • A cold foam layer that helps with the transition from the upper layers to the pocket springs. This foam type can help with support.
  • A pocket springs layer that uses a zoned-support system that can provide your body with tailored support. They decided to use taller pocket springs (12.5cm) as they are more supportive when compared to mini-springs.
  • A base foam layer that is the foundation of this mattress. It’s there to help with support.

The mattress measures 25cm in height and the picture below shows us the inside of the Emma Premium mattress.

Cover

The cover of this mattress is made of 100% polyester which is a material that is very breathable and this is the main reason they used it here. In addition, polyester is quite durable and it’s easy to maintain. The cover is removable and if you want to clean it, you can use your washing machine at 40 degrees. The design is almost identical to the other Emma mattresses featuring a two-tone colourway. The upper part is white with the bottom part being dark grey.

On the sides, they added 4 handles that will help you move it when needed. This is clever thinking and it’s great Emma added this feature. Finally, at the bottom of the mattress, anti-slip elements were added so the mattress stays in place. Overall, this is a well-designed cover and I am happy with it.

Comfort & Support

The Emma Premium mattress comes with a medium-firm feel so it will suit most sleeping styles. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say this is a 6.8 with 10 being really firm. I would like now to talk about the different sleeping positions and how this mattress performed.

mattress firmness

Starting from the back position, the mattress felt comfortable and I felt that my spine was properly aligned. Pressure relief was adequate and the mattress felt supportive.

Turning to the side position, the mattress reacted quickly and sinkage increased. This helped my spine to align properly and I felt that the mattress was supportive enough. It was comfortable sleeping this way and the zoned system did a good job with my weight distribution.

Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress had an ideal firmness for my weight and I felt my hips and shoulders were well supported. The mattress felt comfortable and overall I think it’s a good all-rounder that will suit every type of sleeper.

If you share your bed with a partner this mattress would be a good option as it has great edge support. On the other hand, you should expect some motion transfer but nothing that will bother you too much.

Service

When you order an Emma mattress, you will get free delivery for all UK postcodes. They usually deliver their mattresses within 5-7 working days. If you want a Saturday delivery, you will have to pay an extra £35. This is also the cost if you want to have your old mattress removed.

The Emma Premium mattress will be delivered inside a carton box just like the one pictured below. Mine took 6 working days and it was delivered by DPD. The courier was prompt and overall I was happy with the service I got.

Trial Period & Guarantee

Every Emma mattress comes with a 200-night trial period that is one of the longest in the UK market. That means that you have more than 6 months to try this mattress and decide later whether you want to keep it or not. If you are not happy with it, you can return it for free and get a full refund. All you have to do is contact them and they will arrange everything for you.

Besides that, you will also get a 10-year guarantee that will cover you for a long time. Make sure you read the terms and conditions so you know what is included in their policy. Overall, this is a great package and Emma did a great job here.

Verdict

The time has come now to complete this Emma NextGen Premium mattress review. This is one of the best mattresses that I have tried and Emma succeeded in creating an improved version of the Emma Hybrid mattress. It will suit combo sleepers and everyone looking for a mattress made with high-quality materials. If you have the budget for it, this is a great hybrid mattress from the German maker.
