Tweak is a company that makes customizable mattresses. Having reviewed their Duo mattress, I was really curious to see what else they have. In this Tweak Nrem mattress review, I will talk about their other option which is designed for those suffering from chronic back pain. The two mattresses use the same philosophy but they use the foam inserts differently.
Doing a lot of office work and seating on a chair for hours, I developed pain in my lower back. Some things help with it (swimming, yoga) but a good mattress is also needed. If I am honest, this is one of the reasons I started this website. My Tweak Nrem came 3 weeks ago so it’s a good time now to write this review.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
Just like the Duo, the Nrem mattress has a 4-layer construction. These are:
- A comfort layer that is 4cm deep. It contours and cushions the body but at the same time, it keeps the sleeping surface cool during sleep.
- A highly resilient Polyurethane foam layer which consists of 5 parts. These can be interchanged to achieve a different feel. You will receive 4 different densities of deep foam.
- A pocket spring layer that provides your body with the needed support. There are around 1,000 pocket springs in each mattress that measure 10cm in height.
- A highly resilient base foam layer which works as the base of this mattress. It adds to the edge support by encapsulating the springs.
The cover of the Tweak Nrem mattress is made of a breathable material (visco-elastic polyester blend) which allows airflow to keep the mattress cool during sleep. It’s also fire-resistant and if you want to clean it, you can remove it and machine wash it at 30 degrees. Finally, the cover is designed for allergy sufferers so if you are one, you can stay assured that you won’t face any issues with this mattress.
The design of this cover is not a great one. It features a two-tone colour scheme with the top part being white and the bottom part being light grey. The two parts are separated by a zip. The sleeping surface feels soft but strong at the same time. On the sides, you will find 4 handles that will help you when you want to move the mattress. I love when makers think practically so well done here Tweak. Overall, this is a good-quality cover that does the job but it’s not the best I have seen.
COMFORT & SUPPORT
I have already mentioned that the Nrem mattress is a modular one. It’s separated into two sides so you and your partner can choose the set up that suits you better. Each side then is made of 5 foam inserts. You choose the inserts to use based on the set up you want to create. Tweak have some suggested ones as you can see in the image below.
Suffering from chronic back pain, I chose the first set up as the pain is mainly on the lower part of my back. In general, it’s very difficult to talk about the experience with this mattress as I think every person will probably have a different one. However, I will try to share how I felt.
Starting from the back position, I felt that the mattress provided me with a lot of pressure relief which is what I needed. Support was also good and overall the mattress felt comfortable.
Moving to the side position, the soft inserts allowed my hips to get to a good position and my spine was aligned properly. It felt quite comfortable and overall I felt well supported.
Turning to the stomach position is when I felt that this set up wasn’t the best one. The softer inserts didn’t do a good job placing my hips in the right position and I felt that I was not well supported.
Finally, the edge support of this mattress is a good one because the springs do a great job. In terms of motion transfer, the reflex foam used here means that it will be noticeable but nothing too bad.
All Tweak mattresses are made to order which means that it will take a few days for your mattress to be delivered. They promise to deliver the mattress within 8-15 days from the moment you order it, in my case, it was 10. All mattresses come with a 2-man delivery service that is great especially for a mattress like Nrem which is quite heavy. The couriers placed the mattress in the room of my choice and they were very polite and kind. I also chose to have my old mattress removed which cost me £30. This is not a bad deal at all but you need to make sure you choose this option at checkout. In terms of communication, Tweak contacted me via email and text and the whole process was quite smooth.
TRIAL PERIOD & GUARANTEE
Just like most mattresses these days, the Nrem will come with a 100-night trial period that will give enough time to decide whether you want to keep this or not. If you are not happy with it you have two options; you can either ask for a full refund or ask for a firmness swap. In this case, they will send you new inserts with the aim to suit your needs better. Both options are free during the 100-night trial period.
Other than this, you will also get a 10-year guarantee that covers any physical defect or change caused as a result of manufacturing error. This is great and it shows how confident they are in their manufacturing process. Overall, they offer a complete package here and I love the fact they offer firmness swap for free.
It’s time now to complete this Tweak Nrem mattress review. Just like the Duo mattress, this is also a unique proposition. They went deeper with this one and the 5 zone system they used here is a clever one. However, I think it can work with people who don’t move a lot and prefer to sleep in 1 or 2 positions. If you are one of those persons and you suffer from back or hips pain then this might be a good choice for you.
