Sleeping is a very personal thing. Each one of us has different needs and ways. In this Tweak Duo mattress review, I will talk about this interesting proposition that is specifically designed for couples.
Tweak is a company that specializes in modular mattresses. This means that you can customize them according to your needs. The Duo mattress has two sides, one for each partner. But more on that later. Mine arrived about a month ago so it’s a good time now to write this review.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
The Tweak Duo has a 4-layer construction plus the cover. These are:
- A 4cm comfort layer which is there to keep your mattress cool during sleep. It also contours and cushions the body.
- A visco-elastic foam layer which can be interchanged so you can adjust the firmness of the mattress.
- A layer made of 1,000 pocket springs which are there to provide your body with the needed support. Each spring measures 10cm in height.
- A high-density supportive foam layer which is essentially the base of this mattress. This layer encapsulates the springs for edge to edge support.
COVER
The cover of the Tweak Duo is made of a visco-elastic polyester blend. This makes it very breathable which is important for temperature control. The cover is also hypo-allergenic which makes it suitable for those sleepers who suffer from dust or skin allergies. Finally, it’s fire-resistant and you can machine wash it at 30 degrees.
The top part of the cover feels soft but the design is very uninspiring. There is a two-tone colour scheme and the cover is split into two parts by the zip. I personally didn’t like it at all. On the bright side, Tweak have cleverly placed handles on the two sides which are very useful when trying to move this mattress. Overall, it’s a good cover that does the job but I have seen better ones.
COMFORT & SUPPORT
I have already mentioned above that the Tweak Duo is a modular mattress. It’s split into two sides so you and your partner can have a different firmness feel. The mattress will come with 3 inserts, one soft, one medium and one firm. In my case, I chose to use initially the soft insert for my side and my partner went for the firm one. I was worried that the mattress would not feel sturdy due to the removable parts but the truth was the exact opposite. The mattress feels very solid and I think they did a great job here. I would like now to talk about the different sleeping positions and how each insert felt.
Soft: Starting from the back position, the mattress felt quite comfortable. I got enough support from the spring layer and overall the feeling was good. Moving to the side position, sinkage increased and my spine got to a good form. However, I felt that it could be better. The mattress was very comfortable for my hips and shoulders which was expected from the softer insert. Finally, moving to the stomach position, I felt well supported and pressure relief was more noticeable. However, I think the soft insert would only suit people who don’t weigh a lot.
Medium: I always start from the back position and the mattress felt comfortable. I felt that I got more support compared to the softer insert and my spine was well aligned. Turning to the side position, the springs reacted quickly and sinkage increased. My hips felt less comfortable compared to the soft one but it was not anything bad. Finally, moving to the stomach position, I felt that my spine was better aligned and I got more support.
Firm: Starting from the back position, I felt that I was not sinking enough compared to the other inserts. I personally like to sink a bit but this is my taste. My spine had good alignment and the support was good. Turning to the side position, I felt that the mattress was a bit too firm for my hips. I preferred the other two settings for this position. Finally, moving to the stomach position, I felt that the hard insert did a great job and I felt excellent support in my hips area.
The edge support of this mattress is a good one. This is due to the existence of springs which always help when it comes to that. The motion transfer is noticeable as they use reflex foam which is a bit more bouncy than regular memory foam.
SERVICE
The Tweak Duo mattress comes with a free 2-man delivery service. That means that it will be delivered to the room of your choice which is a great thing. After all, mattresses can be very heavy! For £30 they offer a mattress removal service. Make sure you choose this option at check out. Every Duo mattress is made to order, which means that your mattress will be delivered within 8-15 days. In my case, it was 10 days. I received good communication from them and the whole process was smooth. The couriers were very helpful and polite. Other than the long delivery time, I think that their service is good overall.
TRIAL PERIOD & GUARANTEE
This mattress comes with a 10-year guarantee which covers any physical defect or change caused as a result of manufacturing error. This shows how confident they are in their production process. Other than that, you will also get a 100-night trial period which essentially gives you more than 3 months to try this mattress and decide whether you are happy with it. If you are not, then you can send it back and ask for a full refund. You also have the choice to ask for a firmness swap. In this case, they will send you different inserts free of charge. You can do this during the 100-night trial period. Overall, they offer a very good service and I really like the fact they offer firmness swap for free!
VERDICT
Completing this Tweak Duo mattress review, I would like to leave my final thoughts here. This is a unique proposition that targets specifically couples that have different sleeping needs. They have designed a clever system that will suit your needs. The mattress comes with great service and it’s well built. Of course, it’s not the cheapest out there but it’s hard to find what they offer. If you are in constant dispute with your partner then this might be the solution you’ve been looking for.
